CARING FOR MERINO WOOL PRODUCTS: BASIC RULES
The product can be machine washed. Use only the wool cycle, as it is more gentle (applying appropriate temperature and lower-speed spin).
The product can be hand-washed in water below 30 °C, followed by gentle wringing and flat drying, best on a towel. When rinsing, lower water temperature gradually to prevent shrinking or other deformation. Use gentle detergents for wool.
Don't dry the product on a heater. If a heater's temperature exceeds 30 °C (which is very common), the water contained in the knit also exceeds 30 °C and the product shrinks, like it does when washed improperly. Do not use a softener!
WARNING! MACHINE WASHING IN WATER ABOVE 30°C AND LONG SPIN CYCLES DEGRADE THE PRODUCT. THE KNIT TURNS INTO FELT AND SHRINKS. CLAIMING WARRANTY FOR PRODUCTS DEGRADED THIS WAY IS NOT POSSIBLE.
The yarn we use is not pre-washed; therefore, slight pilling may occur in areas exposed to friction. This will completely disappear after the first wash.
HOW TO EXTEND THE LIFESPAN OF MERINO WOOL SWEATERS: 9 CARE TIPS
Merino wool is a natural material with unique properties – it is antibacterial, self-cleaning, and breathable. To ensure your Merino sweater lasts as long as possible, follow these tips:
Wash less, air more: Merino wool does not need frequent washing. Simply hang it in fresh air or in a humid room after wearing to refresh and preserve its properties.
Stain removal: Instead of washing the entire sweater, gently wipe stains with a damp cloth to minimize wear.
Proper storage: Store the sweater flat (not on a hanger) to prevent stretching. Keep it clean, dry, and protected from moths (e.g., with lavender).
Washing: When machine washing, use a gentle wool cycle and suitable wool detergent. The ideal temperature is up to 30°C.
Drying: Dry flat on a towel or drying rack. Never hang or place on a heater. Do not use a tumble dryer.
Removing pilling: Pills can easily be removed using a fabric shaver or by hand.
Ironing: If necessary, use a steam iron to restore the sweater’s shape.
Repairing minor damage: Small tears or pulled stitches can be repaired with a crochet hook or by professional repair.
What to avoid: Do not wash in water that is too hot. Do not use fabric softener, tumble dryer, or bleach. Avoid contact with sharp objects (Velcro, straps) that may damage the knit.
Proper care reduces wear and extends the lifespan of your sweater, contributing to a more sustainable and high-quality wardrobe.
At KAMA, our experience shows that properly cared-for sweaters can last more than 10 years.
ATTENTION – WASHING IN WARMER WATER (ABOVE 30°C) OR LONG MACHINE CYCLES WILL DAMAGE THE PRODUCT. THE KNIT WILL FELT AND SHRINK. PRODUCTS DAMAGED IN THIS WAY CANNOT BE CLAIMED UNDER WARRANTY.
The reward for careful maintenance is the comfort provided by natural Merino wool. Its functional properties cannot be replicated by synthetic fibers. Merino wool is naturally soft and non-itchy, antibacterial, odor-resistant, perfectly regulates temperature, keeps you warm even when wet, is hypoallergenic, and UV-resistant.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR GORE® PRODUCTS
Products with a GORE® membrane can be washed regularly without concern. They are high quality and retain their functional properties even after frequent washing. Regular washing is very important for the membrane, as it prevents pore clogging and maintains breathability. The lifespan of the garment depends on proper care and handling.
KAMA is the only knitting brand in the Czech Republic licensed to process the unique membranes of the American company W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. Since 1996, we have used waterproof GORE-TEX® and windproof GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® in our products.
